Microchipping is a useful way of making sure that even if your pet loses their collar and/or tags, they can still be identified and returned to you. A microchip is very small, about the size of a grain of rice, and a needle is used to place it beneath the skin – usually on the back, between the shoulder blades. To read a microchip, a scanner is passed over your pets back, and the scanner will then pick up what number is on the microchip. This can be entered into a database online so the vet/welfare organization that has found you pet, can then contact you.
